The environmental engineering undergraduate program in our branch campus in Guayaquil held the Webinar titled: "Industrial waste management, cases in Ecuador", led by Jairo Mendieta, master's degree in environmental engineering and post graduate director in the faculty of chemical engineering in Universidad Estatal de Guayaquil. 

Carmen Palacios, director of the environmental engineering undergraduate program, gave a brief introduction on the importance of managing industrial waste and its effects on the environment.

Some of the topics in the webinar were: industrial ecology, classification of waste, properties of waste, processes and waste disposal, current data of waste generated in our country.
Jairo Mendieta explained the importance of knowing the properties of waste because they will determine the destination of that waste. "It is not possible to generate waste and just leave it there. It must be managed correctly to care for the environment", he said. 

The webinar was attended by about 100 people. Palacios stated that the country has regulations in force for the treatment of waste and called on the institutions that have the obligation to comply with these norms.
