Four hundred seventy two domestic workers successfully ended the online course on human and labor rights which helped them strengthen their knowledge on the implementation of public policies to guarantee their rights.

The course was organized by the community engagement department in Quito. The course was divided into four modules: gender equality and paid work from home, labor and human rights, gender violence and job security.

The end of the course was attended by Maria Sol Villagomez, vice president of our branch campus in Quito; Alexandra Moncada, director of CARE Ecuador; Nancy Bastidas, director of community engagement; and Nelly Valbuena, UPS professor.

Villagómez said that "academia contributes to the construction of equitable spaces, awareness and social commitment in order to bridge gaps and generate constructive debates in favor of a more just and equitable society, especially for us women." Moncada said that these spaces "seek women's improvement, in their capacity to identify themselves, assert themselves and then organize to transform those unjust and inadequate systems."

The learning methodology of the course was based on a constructive process that started from participants' experience, combining theory with practice to analyze and identify weaknesses and strengthen skills.

Lenny Quiroz, representative of women's workers unión, spoke about the pandemic and how women's rights have been affected. "Many of us are working indoors for about 12 hours, others are unemployed; these spaces give us an opportunity to keep striving. We thank UPS and CARE for the course".

Marcela Arellano, representative of  Confederación Ecuatoriana Asociación de Sindicales Libres, stated that people and nature should come before capital and market. "We need develop society; all policies and regulations must be based on gender equality and rights", she said.
