The university signed a cooperation agreement with Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Philippines, that will enable technology transfer and the creation of a strategic plan aimed at editorial management and the improvement the scientific publication of WMSU. The agreement was signed by Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, WMSU, and Juan Cardenas, Universidad Politecnica Salesiana (UPS).

 

The agreement was promoted by the communication undergraduate program in our branch campus in Cuenca and the publications department. Professor Angel Torres, coordinator of the project, thanked officials from both universities for making this project possible. He stated that UPS's 20 years' experience in editorial processes will be aligned with WMSU's science journal.

The general objective of this project is to create a strategic plan aimed at editorial management through theoretical and technical competencies for publications. During the next 10 months, both universities will carry out the following activities:

 

1. Diagnose elements that help contextualize the content of the strategic plan in the real problems of scientific publications.

 

2. Design a practical monitoring plan for institutional work aimed at the quality, visibility and international impact of publications.

 

3. Evaluate editorial criteria of quality, visibility and impact of scientific journals taking into consideration the monitoring plan.

 

4. Provide editorial skills to the Editorial Board, Editors-in-Chief and Associate Editors.

 

5. Run the Open Journal System (OJS) editor training.

 

6. Hold regular meetings to learn about the progress in editorial management.

 

This is the first technology transfer project that UPS has signed with an Asian higher education institution. A group of professors and students from the communication undergraduate program will carry out the activities with members of WSMU. The activities will be carried out in English.
