Environmental engineering students in our branch campus in Guayaquil visited the Area Nacional de Recreación Isla Santay and Isla Gallo. The aim of their visit was to identify the relationship between biotic and abiotic factors with the environment, as well as learn about the conservation of protected areas and ecosystems.

Students were able to strengthen what they have learned in ecology and natural resources class and create awareness on the importance of protecting resources and natural areas.

Iralda Cirino, from the Ministry of the Environment, explained the flora and fauna that can be found in this area. Students took a tour of the entire place and saw a dry forest and mangroves.

"This visit allows students to learn about the protected areas in our country, their natural resources and species; to be aware as future professionals of the care and protection necessary to enjoy these areass and that they are sustainable for future generations" stated Carmen Palacios, director of the Environmental Engineering undergraduate program.
