Universidad Politécnica Salesiana is now part of the Ecuadorian Network of Universities and Polytechnic Schools of Research and Postgraduate Education-REDU. The university's aim is for its students and professors to participate in the development of research and postgraduate studies for the country. UPS President Javier Herran said "becoming a member is a recognition to the effort UPS has made in the field of research and academia and it represents a great opportunity for our students and professors to take part in the country's development".

The Network started in 2012 and it is made up by several universities in the country, its aim is to work together to organize and promote programs, projects and inter institutional academic activities by sharing experiences, communication mechanisms and shared resources.

The Network's specific aims are to:

-    Identify spaces for discussions and dissemination of research and postgraduate studies

-    Strengthen the relationship of higher education institutions with society

-    Link the academic, social, political and productive sectors through research projects and continuing education at a postgraduate level in science and engineering.

-    Recommend research and postgraduate policies according to the National Plan of Good Living to university and higher education agency directors.

Here is a list of the universities that are part of the Network: Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN), Universidad Central del Ecuador (UCE), Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE), Universidad de Cuenca (UCUENCA), Universidad del Azuay (UDA), Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), Universidad Técnica de Ambato (UTA), Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), Escuela Superior Politécnica del Chimborazo (ESPOCH), Escuela Politécnica del Ejército (ESPE), Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS).

The first thing UPS will do is assign a representative to the Committe of REDU. This is an important step for UPS since it is now part of the best higher education institutions in the country  and it offers its students the opportunity to be part of development processes, because "going to the university is not just about learning what we already know, it  is about contributing scientific innovation and significant changes for society" said Father Javier Herran.
