Father Jorge Molina, Salesian Inspector in Ecuador, announced that after having spoken to members of the university community and the Salesian Society Board, Juan Pablo Salgado was named the new Head of Research at UPS.  Juan Pablo Salgado took oath of office before the University President Father Javier Herran and reaffirmed his commitment with the university.

Juan Pablo Salgado has worked for UPS since 2003 as head of foreign relations. In 2013 he coordinated the progress of electric generation projects as an advisor for the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy. He was also the Secretary of Human and Economic Development for the Municipality of Cuenca. He is currently a doctoral student of Economy and Innovation in Universidad Politecnica de Madrid.

During his speech, Juan Pablo remembered his conversations with Father Julio Perello (+) with whom he discussed his new role at the university. He said that his designation during this month of May is not pure coincidence since he is a strong believer of the Don Bosco's phrase which says "no one enters a salesian home if not accompanied by Maria Auxiliadora"
Father Javier congratulated Juan Pablo and advised him to have Father Perello as his guide so that "through research our students can grow and create projects with social responsibility".
