Over 3,000 people attended the first day of the CAMPUS PARTY, an important technological event where 60 UPS students from different majors presented their projects.

The event, being held in an exhibition center located in Mitad del Mundo, Quito, is used by University students, municipalities, public and private institutions to present their technological proposals from September 30th to October 4th. This year's edition of the Campus Party was inaugurated by Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas Espinel.

As every other year UPS students are taking part of the event. However, it is the first time so many students from engineering majors and the Transport Engineering Research Group (GIIT) are attending. The UPS delegation was led by UPS Research Vice President Juan Pablo Salgado and UPS-Quito Vice President Jose Juncosa. Taking part of this event means breaking paradigms and encouraging students to work together and create projects involved with society by solving social issues with social responsibility.

These are the projects being presented by UPS:

•   Shaded Cane: for people with visual impairment for persons with visual disabilities. The invention has an electronic system , vibrator in the handle , ultrasonic sensor, headset and GPS  which detects obstacles and sends a vibrates to alert the user

•    Couching Educativo: this Project is aimed at improving education by filming classes and then uploading the videos on the web to reinforce learning for students.

•    A transmitter for people with cerebral palsy
Using Android technology this invention allows children to transmit their needs such as going to the bathroom, hand washing, eating, etc through their movements. It will immediately notify the therapist who attend the child's needs.

•    Koda: a teddy bear that helps children in therapies for their legs, arms, and neck. It has a 3D camera, which allows imitating the movements of children.

•    Pet Dispenser: This helps people who don't spend much time at home to program the date and the time their pet should eat.

•    Formula SAE Car: since 2012 a group of UPS students have been building this car which has a 100% electric engine and is aimed at helping the country change its production model through technology.

Juan Pablo Salgado said that these events allow students to integrate and generate knowledge in order to propose social changes. He also said that the projects presented by UPS are based on innovation but are also aimed at meeting several social demands.

The students are very excited to be part of the event, they will also have the opportunity to attend conferences, workshops and competitions on multimedia design, biotechnology and robotics to learn more about the most important technological advances in Ecuador and the world.
