UPS professor Esteban Inga Ortega took part in the IEEE-ISGT 2015 Conference on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Latin America, which was held in Uruguay from the 5th to the 7th of October, and presented his research titled "Optimal Dimensioning of FiWi Networks over Advanced Metering Infrastructure for the Smart Grid"

The research was co-written by professor Arturo Peralta Sevilla and other researchers from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana and the University of Denmark. The research is the result of their doctoral projects in telecommunications, principally in wireless networks and optical fiber for smart electricity networks, indexed to IEEE Xplore and Scopus.

This international conference is the most important in the field of Smart Grids and a very notable event for Latin America and the world since it gathered representatives from 21 countries, there were 291 projects and 131 approved scientific articles. This event allowed UPS to show its work and contact other researchers in the field of smart grids.

The university's Smart Grids Research Group-GIREI – Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes and Telecommunications Research Group- GITEL – Telecomunicaciones, from UPS- Quito and UPS-Cuenca respectively, worked together and consolidated teamwork, there will be new advances in research carried out together by UPS researchers.
