Scientific production and university publishing in Ecuador is currently rising. Science and research in universities are clearly defined by rankings, impact factors, metrics, and others. 
In this regard, about three years ago the university's general editors and officials have been committed to meeting the requirements which will allow the university's six journals of open access and peer reviewed journals, some of which can already be found in LATINDEX, to be place in other international indexes. 

The requirements are: 

-    To place the university's journals in PORTICO, a safeguard repository for published articles.

-    To include a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) on every article

-    To implement the URKUND, a system against plagiarism 

-    To get the CREATIVE COMONS license, for open access journals

-    To be a part of SHERPA ROMEO, a statement of Copyright policies (post print).

-    To implement the Open Journal System

Luis Alvarez Rodas, the university's general editor, visited REDALYC in Mexico, and along with Eduardo Aguado Lopez, general director of REDALYC, and Arianna Becerril Garcia, director of Technology and Innovation, went over the assessment process being conducted to the university's journals.

Salvador Chavez Avila, the documentation and content director at REDALYC, will be in UPS-Quito to give a talk to the editors of the university's journals so that any time soon these journals can be a part of REDALYC's information system. 

Here are the university's six journals: 

•    UNIVERSITAS, Journal of Social and Human Sciences , which started in 2002, has a biannual issue. Its aims are to promote and disseminate the publication of unpublished and previously evaluated scientific and critical texts , of current interest topics in the field of knowledge of social and human issues, favoring those on Ecuador and Latin America. The journal presents scientific articles, papers and book reviews ( ISSN 1390-3837 printed / Electronic ISSN 1390-8634 ) .
 
•    INGENIUS, Biannual journal of Science and Technology that began in 2007. Its field is Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Civil and Industrial Engineering and those related to Physics and Mathematics (print ISSN 1390 -3853 / Electronic ISSN 1390-860X .
 
•    SOPHIA, Collection of Philosophy of Education, founded in 2006. It is a philosophical - scientific publication , it aims to theorize education from a philosophical point of view , using data from the individual and collective psychology of teaching and learning experiences , sociology , culture and the development of empirical science , to renew , update and better articulate the conceptual , procedural and experiential level of education ( ISSN 1390-3861 print / ISSN electronic ISSN : 1390-8626 ) .

 
•    RETOS, Founded in 2004. It is a journal of Administrative Sciences and Economics. It promotes and disseminates the publication of unpublished and previously evaluated scientific and critical texts of current interest in the field of social and human knowledge and on issues of general application. It favors articles on Ecuador and Latin America ( ISSN 1390-6291 printed / Electronic ISSN 1390-8618 )

•    ALTERIDAD, Journal of Education, it is a journal that has been published since 2005 twice a year and aims to contribute, from the Latin American context, to socialize and discuss academic production in the field of education , in the following lines : Philosophy Education , Curriculum and Cultures, Education Policy and Teacher Education , Educational Evaluation , Education and Technologies , Special and Inclusive Education. The journal is aimed at all those involved or interested in the field of education , particularly students of Science Education and teachers and researchers of various educational levels ( ISSN 1390-325X printed / electronic ISSN 1390- 8642 ) .
 
•    LA GRANJA, This Journal of Life Sciences began in 2012; It is an international journal on physics and electronics. It is published twice a year. It publishes original scientific papers prior acceptance and academic peer review. Its articles are related to chemical , biological, environmental , health , agricultural , livestock and veterinary science ( Print ISSN 1390-3799 / ISSN electrónico1390-8596 )
