UPS researchers from the Smart Grids Research Group (grupos de investigación en Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes (GIREI), the electronics and telematics research group (GIETEC) in Quito, and the Telematics and telecommunications research group (grupo de investigación en Telecomunicaciones y Telemática (GITEL) in Cuenca, took part in the international course on Heuristics. The aim of the course was to facilitate the development of competencies to find optimal solutions, generate innovation, interpret mathematical syllogisms and apply modeling and simulation to develop problems in the field of telecommunications, electricity and control.

Professors Juan Inga, Renato Cumbal, Marcelo García, Arturo Peralta, Diego Carrión, Andrés Ortega, Miltón Tipán, Carlos Pillajo, Esteban Inga,  Alexander Águila and Leony Ortiz attended the course which was led by Roberto Carlos Hincapie Reyes, PhD, from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de Medellín, Colombia.

Roberto Carlos Hincapie is a renowned researcher in Latin America, he is the director of the doctoral project in telecommunications engineering and the coordinator of the telecommunications and computing research group (GIDATI)

This international meeting allowed professors to propose solutions to their doctoral research related to planning and expansion of telecommunications networks (wireless and fiber optic) and electrical. The heuristics developed by researchers enrich the presentations of papers.
