The university's 8th Athletic Competition came to an end

On Sunday, June 26th, over 1800 people took part in the university's 8th athletic competition, where Chrisitan Vasconez came in first after finishing the race in 22m 30s followed by Leonardo Tenempaguay who came in second with 23m 01s and Mauricio Matute who was third with 23m 04s.

The three athletes were in a very close race up to the fourth kilometer when Christian Vasconez was able to take the lead and win; this is the third time Christian Vasconez wins this competition, he won it in 2012 and 2014. He said he had been training hard for over a month, he also said he felt disappointed for not having made it to the 2016 Olympics in Rio. "This win makes me feel good", he said.

The winner in the women's category was 14 year old Victoria Fajardo who finished the race in 27 min 10sec. Melania Ordoñez came in second with 28min 06s and 13 year old Joselyn Vida came in third with 28m 32s. Victoria Fajardo said she was very pleased to have won and said it was a very demanding competition. In September she will be in Argentina to compete in the South American School Athletics Competition.

Julio Chuqui, director of the physical education major in Cuenca and the organizer of the athletic competition, thanked everyone for having participated and thanked the university officials for all their support.

The university's vice president in Cuenca, Cesar Vasquez, was gratified with having students take part in the competition and congratulated everybody for having participated.
