UPS students from the university's branch in Cuenca visited the university's pastoral department in Guayaquil and met with faculty directors, professors and students to talk about their experience in SENESCYT's project titled "Políticas Cuotas" that was held at UPS.

During the meeting, they talked about issues to effectively develop the project, the participation of different stakeholders and especially the work of students as teaching assistants or tutors. "This activity was encouraged by our university president, who asked to coordinate with students from Cuenca to learn about their experiences with scholars," said Veronica Loor, director of the project.

During the talk they discussed the role that tutors should have to transmit their knowledge to scholars. According to Loor the aim is that students do not fail their subjects and especially that students entering the university finish their major. "Being part of this project is really rewarding because not only do you share what you know, but you help others to improve their grades", said Mariana de Jesus Mera, assistant professor in Guayaquil.

The project is an agreement between SENESCYT and UPS to welcome young people who for economic situations cannot pay the costs of their university education. According to Loor, people are working nationally to provide better service to students. "They have open spaces to work dynamically and as a team for students' wellbeing," he said.

Tutorials will be given by students from advanced levels who besides their grade point averages demonstrate that they have the attitude to academically support students "The idea of officials is that they not only help, but become seedbeds for future professors of our university, " said Loor.
