UPS moved up 736 positions in the WEBOMETRICS ranking web of universities, which evaluates the performance of universities on the internet worldwide.

According to the news that was published in August, UPS made its way up from place 4210 to 3474 worldwide and is in 7th place among Ecuadorian universities.

The ranking web is based on the rating of four indicators that evaluate different aspects of university work and its projection in the virtual environment. The most important indicator in the ranking, which refers to the IMPACT of the University and its publications on the web, recorded a significant change of position from 4797 to 3809, improving approximately 988 positions. In the Excellence indicator, which measures the quality and acceptance of scientific production of teachers and researchers from UPS, there has seen a major improvement over the last ranking in December 2015.

The indicators of OPENNESS and PRESENCE have change the valuation of university works related to the greater demand of the use of Google Scholar by professors, therefore UPS has seen its positions change according to the new parameters in the same indicators. It is worth highlighting the second place of the university's Digital Repository nationwide thanks to the work carried out by the Abya Yala University Publishing House.

This tool evaluates the management, usability and web relevance of UPS, which is a job carried out by several university departments and the support of GESPLAN.
Adolfo Cazorla (PhD), director of the International School of Doctorates at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) and the coordinator of GESPLAN says "UPS has improved considerable in July's ranking. The work done by the people in charge of the university's website has paid off, especially in impact. This indicator, which is the most important in the ranking, improved 1000 places."

Dr. Cazorla said that in order for UPS to keep improving it is necessary that all professors and researchers get involved. "The performance of UPS on the web is starting to demonstrate the academic, scientific and social results of the university. Therefore, we must keep improving communication so that the university is fully valued", said Andrea De Santis, web editor UPS.
