On the 14th and 15th of November, the university's psychology major in Quito held Psychology Week and the overall topic was "Contemporaneity and interdisciplinarity. New challenges in the Ecuadorian context."

The aim of this event was to analyze disciplinary models as well as think about and understand the psycho social changes in the Ecuadorian context from different perspectives that will contribute to creating psychology that is politically committed to society. 

During the inauguration, Jose Juncosa, the university's vice president in Quito, suggested overcoming only one disciplinary approach in order to get contributions from other sciences.

Knowledge is diverse and complementary because it is part of the vital cycle of our discipline; in an academic environment you have to go beyond interdisciplinary aspects, Morin spoke about transdisciplinary, which refers to uniting people and heterogeneous knowledge in the academic fied", he said.

Paz Guarderas said that the overall topic of psychology week invites us to rethink about discipline in an epistemological and methological context that allows the reduction of limits between disciplines. "As Morin said, the challenge of Education in the current context is to promote knowledge that is capable of addressing global and fundamental problems", he said.

Diego Santander, president of the students federation in the university's branch in Quito, thanked university officials for holding these academic events that address topics that interest students. Gino Grondona, professor and coordinator of the Psychosocial Research Group spoke about the work carried out the group. 

UPS President Javier Herran spoke about building a university – ecosystem moved by the transversality of knowledge and fostered by systematic processes that become projects, that are embedded in regulations, that creates an environment that can be chaotic, unpredictable, but also full of opportunities having the development of life in the natural environment as a model. 

Additionally, Father Herran spoke about the beginnings of the psychology major which began in 1994 with 82 students and that now there are 1060 students and 41 professors with postgraduate studies.

During the event there were also round tables on the following topics: territory, interculturality, new tendencies on the management of human resources, political psychology, social movements, career guidance, stress and academic performance, educational challenges in the current context, family, violence and psychology.
