"For Don Bosco educational innovation was the logical answer to the pedagogy focused on the young student who should be loved until his/her last minute of life, because education is a matter of the hearth".

With these words, UPS President Father Javier Herran and Adolfo Cazorla from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) started the prologue of the book "Competencias para la dirección de proyectos de innovación educativa: Aprendizaje basado en proyectos y publicaciones científicas".

The book written by Fernando Pesantez, academic vice president of UPS, and Ignacio de los Rios (UPM) is the result of an educational innovation project carried out by both universities during 18 months. The book also included contributions from Susana Sastre Merino and Jose Antonio Navarro, from UPM.

Experiences from both institutions and cooperation have improved professors' activities and favored the publication of scientific publications, changes and innovation in several fields.
In about a year and a half, UPS has created Educational Innovation Groups that have developed new methodologies for the classroom, education courses, teacher training and the redesign of the undergraduate academic plans.

Father Javier Herran explained that in order to obtain these results, UPS had to stop auto referencing and start looking around,  by doing so they shared experiences with the Planning and Sustainable Management of Rural and Local Development (GESPLAN, for is acronym in Spanish) at UPM.

During this event they awarded 105 professors from the university's three branches the certificates for having successfully completed the continuing education course from UPM titled "Certification in Project Management: basis for competition", 3.1 version from the International Project Management Association.

As stated in the book: "Today, as in the days of Don Bosco, the young man is still the measure of changing reality ... and university youth takes a leading role in this new chapter of history."

Universidad Politecnica Salesiana is committed to continue searching innovation paths for the benefit of these young people who are protagonists of time. "One of the next goals is the internationalization of the university, and training professors and students in English, it is a necessary and achievable goal," said Javier Herran.
