The new head of the National Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SENESCYT for its acronym in Spanish), Augusto Barrera, visited UPS on June 29th to meet with university officials and learn more about the work carried professors and students in the university. 

Augusto Barrera was welcomed by Luis Tobar, UPS General Vice President; Fernando Pesantez, Academic vice president; and Diego Peñaloza, head of postgraduate programs. During the meeting UPS officials talked to Augusto Barrera about the construction of new buildings in its three branches (Cuenca, Guayaquil and Quito) which will be used for new classrooms and laboratories.

They also spoke about having more spaces for new students, the organic law of higher education, the categorization of universities and possible projects in the future.

On June 28th, the director of SENESCYT met with officials from co financed universities of Ecuador to talk about the allocation of funds for scholarships, involvement with companies and foundations, the qualification of professors and the application of the organic law of higher education.
