From the 18th to the 20th October, the Natural Resources Biotechnology Engineering undergraduate program and the Students Federation (FEUPS) organized the 2nd Congress on Biotechnology and alumni meeting. Students and researchers from different institutions presented keynote speeches and posters to demonstrate the potential of biotechnology in Ecuador.

Edgar Tello, on behalf of the vice president of UPS's branch campus in Quito, welcomed everyone to the congress. In his talk, Washington Fuentes, from the National Secretariat of Science and Technology (SENESCYT) said that these events allow university students to share their research results and projects. Finally, Nicolas Grijalva, president of FEUPS and Biotechnology student thanked everyone for attending.

For Diana Calero, director of the biotechnology program, these events allow students to learn about research carried out by other researchers and not duplicate the same work and waste resources. It also helps them to strengthen knowledge.

The congress brought together researchers from institutions such as Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (ESPOCH); Universidad Internacional SEK, Grupo QuiPre, Universidad de Cantabria, España; Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas (ESPE); Universidad de las Américas (UDLA); Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ); Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, sedes Quito e Ibarra; Escuela de Ciencias Agrícolas y Ambientales ECAA; Universidad Nacional de Tumbes and Universidad Técnica Luis Vargas Torres de Esmeraldas.

It was also attended by representatives of: INCABIOTEC S.A.C, biotechnology training and research company; Universidad Técnica Estatal de Quevedo; Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) (Francia); Instituto Nacional de Investigación en Salud Pública Dr. Leopoldo Izquieta Perez (INSPI-LIP); Universidad Técnica del Norte.
