Magaly Bonilla, physical education student in the university's branch campus in Cuenca, will participate in the World Race Walk Competition, which will be held between May 5 and 6 in Taicang, China.

Magaly participated in the South American walk race that took place on March 10 in Sucúa, Morona Santiago and won a gold medal, a South American record with a time of 4h19m36s, and therefore qualified to the World Championship in China.

With the South American record, Bonilla is optimistic to participate in the World Championship since she can appear among the top five of the world ranking. During her participation in Sucúa, she took advantage of her technical and physical conditions, which allowed her to win. She beat Johana Ordóñez, who also classified to the world championship, with almost a 9 minute difference.

Julio Chuqui, director of the physical education undergraduate program and trainer of Magaly Bonilla, Johana Ordóñez and Paola Pérez, said that the athletes' performance is the result of daily training. It should be noted that Ecuador will be in the World Championship with a large national delegation, where they will participate in five categories: 10km men and women, 20km men and 50km men and women
