For the second consecutive year, our university organized the inter high school Folk Dance Festival, which was coordinated by the university's folk dance group in Guayaquil.

The aim of the event is to rescue the cultural identity of our country through dance, as well as encourage students' artistic skills.

The high schools that took part in this year's festival were: Unidad Educativa Particular Corazón de María, Unidad Educativa Particular Americus Mundus Novus,  Unidad Educativa Particular Altamar, Unidad Educativa Particular Santa Ana.

Unidad Educativa Particular Corazón de María presented a dance from Cayambe by representing Inti Raymi, an andean ritual that pays tribute to the God of the sun and Mother Earth.
Americus Mundus Novus and Altamar presented different festivities of the Inti Raymi in the province of Pichincha, Cayambe canton, where women were dressed with a multicolor outfit and men wore ponchos.

Unidad Educativa Particular Santa Ana danced three choreographies from Esmeraldas. "Chigualo", a ceremony performed for the death of a child so that his soul can go to heaven; "La Caderona", an erotic dance that the slave miners used to dance when they held their parties secretly and "Andarele" a Marimbera dance at the end of a party.

"We had a variety of dances in this festival and students demonstrated their interest in our country's culture. As a university we want to help keep these traditions alive in our country", said Arturo Campoverde, director of the Ayawara folk dance group.

The winner of the festival was Unidad Educativa Particular Americus Mundus Novus. This is the result the hard work carried out by our students, their parents and high school offiicials", said Emilio Barrera, director of the group.
