Students from the environmental engineering undergraduate program and members from Environmental Sciences Research Group presented their research in the First International Salesian Conference on Sustainable Development.

Karina Pazmiño, director of the environmental engineering undergraduate program in the university's branch campus in Quito, welcomed the speakers and said "It is important for the university to disseminate research conducted by our students and professors as well as interact with peers and higher education institutions from abroad."

The first conference was led by Fabian Bersosa and Renato Sanchez, who presented the topic: "Un estudio de la Biodiversidad y la calidad de agua mediante el análisis de macro invertebrados acuáticos en el refugio de vida silvestre Pasochoa". The aim of this research was to demonstrate the pollution in this sector and encourage future researchers to use the data to suggest solutions.

Through streaming, speakers from Universidad de Florencia (Italy), University of Debrecen (Hungary), Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), Universidad de Sao Paulo (Brazil), Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina), and others took part of the event.

Juan Fransisco Morales, a graduate from this university, presented the topic: "Variaciones altitudinales en la concentración de fósforo en suelos amazónicos".
