In 2015 the university set up the "Kutukú" Biological Station in the district of Sevilla Don Bosco in the province of Morona Santiago, this area gives the university community the opportunity to have a close look at the biological richness of this area.

30 people, students, professors and researchers, from several undergraduate programs in Quito took part in an academic field trip to the station which was organized by Paco Noriega, director of the station.

The six kilometer path to the station is full of exuberant vegetation, the group took this tour and saw different species of flora and fauna of the area. In addition, they were able to see the recovery of the station thanks to the adequate behavior and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of this protected area.

Noriega said that the aim of this field trip was that the university community gets involved in academic activities based on the needs of the community, as well as "encourage research that could be carried out in the infrastructure of Sevilla Don Bosco".

During their stay, participants talked to Father Luciano Bellini, former president of Universidad Politecnica Salesiana and the director of Salesian works in Morona Santiago, who spoke about the need to get the university involved in education processes in communities.

Adriana Mogrovejo, student and assistant of the "Nunkui Wakan" group, believes that the station benefits academic processes of students and strengthen research in the field of biological resources.
