Andrea García, Melissa Montalvo and Isaac Ojeda, 3 UPS-Cuenca students majoring in electronic engineering, will fly to Europe on September 2nd to study one full semester in a European university thanks to the scholarship they won in the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Program for Latin America.

The project that awarded these students their scholarships is called SUSTAIN-T and its aim is to encourage cooperation between Europe and higher education institutions in Latin America through student mobility, doctoral applicants, researchers, professors and administrative staff. The SUSTAIN-T program provides 97 scholarships for Latin Americans to Europe and 47 scholarships for Europeans to Latin America.

Isaac Ojeda and Melissa Montalvo will study at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Spain and Andrea Garcia at the Czech Technical University. The subjects taken at these universities will later be validated at UPS according to the agreement in the Erasmus Mundus project.

Besides being a little afraid of this new experience, they are very excited about the fact they will learn about other cultures and new methods of education. Isaac said "It is a new experience that begins with leaving the country, living alone, cooking, being independent and away from our families". Melissa said "It is a unique experience because I will learn about different cultures, know new places and meet new people. I am sure this experience will help me open my mind, learn other perspectives that could help us realize what we want for our future".

Andrea will go to Prague a few days before starting class in order to enhance her language skills. Classes will be English but she will also have to learn Czech during her stay. "We represent the first generation of UPS students who will have this type of experience and therefore it is our responsibility to represent our university the best we can".

A new call for these scholarships will open in september and anyone in UPS can apply. Read how to apply here: http://www.sustaint.eu/apply
