The head of Senescyt spoke to UPS students in Guayaquil

The university's branch in Guayaquil held talk titled "Economic, social and political perspectives in Ecuador" which was led by Rene Ramirez, head of the National Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SENESCYT for its acronym in Spanish). The talk was attended by students and directors from several faculties.

The aim of the talk was to analyze the current level of higher education en Ecuador. Rene Ramirez said: "We are at the moment of investment to develop technology, to generate knowledge through scientific production and the moment of innovation".

Ramirez said that beyond a political debate, it is necessary that students know the period of history we are in and the challenges our country has. "Senescyt must continue encouraging universities to generate more scientific research", he said.

He also spoke about the importance of human resources within the educational - scientific process this country has developed. Therefore, he spoke about the importance of continuing the same policy and strengthening it. He also announced that this year they will reach 20,000 scholarships that have been awarded to Ecuadorians so they can study in the best universities around the world. "Ecuador has increased its publications in indexed journals for four consecutive years"

Finally, along with the university's officials, he took a tour of the university's facilities including the coworking spaces. "It's good that UPS supports innovative projects through these spaces", he said.
