The Research Department in UPS's branch campus in Guayaquil and IEEE-EMBS Ecuador Chapter, presided by Monica Huerta, PhD, organized an event titled "Blockchain: we have the solution, let's look for the problem" ("Blockchain: Tenemos una solución, busquemos el problema) with the participation of students and professors.

Participants learned about a computer system that does not require a security control to carry out commercial activities. "We want attendees to learn about this methodology, its operating philosophy, its main applications today, its benefits, disadvantages, ethical implications and computer security.", said Palo Perez, research coordinator in Guayaquil.

The Blockchain system, appeared in 2009 along with the virtual currency bitcoin, a digital transaction record located in a database where all financial transactions made with the electronic currency are registered. Basically, it is a shared database that operates as a book for the recognition of trading transactions or any other transaction.

This system uses cryptographic keys (computer methods to verify the authorization to access a system or service) and being distributed by many computers (people),it presents advantages in security against manipulations and fraud. A modification in one of the copies would be of no use, it is necessary to make the change in all the copies because the base is open and public.

For Juan Carlos Pelaez, trainer, this type of technology not only allows the Exchange of information with other people in a safe manner but also the chain of intermediaries in all types of commercial transactions.

This training session was broadcasted live through Webinar through the IEEE platform. "These training sessions allow our students and professors to learn about new technologies that emerge in the world and change the way we carry out commercial transactions", said Pablo Perez.
