Universidad Politécnica Salesiana along with Universidad Estatal de Guayaquil and Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabí (UNESUM) took part in the "Yachay Challenge" Program and won second place with their project titled "Domotcasa "Ecoseguridad".

This event was organized Yachay, a public company looking for innovative proposals from students and turning them into entrepreneurs capable of taking their ideas to technological markets and creating their own business.

There were nine projects in the competition: SmarEnergy, Ayhra, Enerme, SmartLumen, Yakei, InduPower, Ecoseguridad, Pacha and SmartGreen, all based on new technological tools that could be used in different social areas.

After carefully assessing the projects, the ECOSEGURIDAD project won second place. The students who worked on this project are: Jorge Alex Avilés Chancay, Jonatán David Benites Chang, Edison Germaynne Rosado Calapi, from UPS, Laura Caicedo from Universidad Estatal de Guayaquil and Hugo Vera and Cristhian Loor from UNESUM. "This project was created after joining three research projects that were presented in the BOOT CAMP that took place in Cuenca", said Laura Caicedo.

For UPS Professor Marcos Millan, the BOOT CAMP held in Cuenca was an ideal place for creating great projects. "During this event, organized by UPS, students realized that if they worked together, they could create greater things", he said.

ECOSEGURIDA,  generates clean and domestic energy giving households efficient operation in security, communications and comfort. "This project took about a year to create and despite the many difficulties because of the location of our research centers, we have reached our goal," said Cristhian Loor, UNESUM student.

During the ceremony María Isabel Cruz, manager of industrial and productive development at Yachay, congratulated the participants and the companies who supported this initiative. "We cannot misuse the excellent skills we have discovered during this process, that is why we hope to keep working together and be part of change in Ecuador" she said.

The prize is $5000 to finance the project, training courses given by Microsoft, legal advice and six months in the Yachay business incubator.
