Thanks to an agreement between Universidad Politecnica Salesiana, the Ministry of Justice and the National Secretariat of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the university will offer the business administration major to people in Cuenca's detention center.

Officials from the three institutions met in the detention center to discuss the final details of the project and visit the place where classes will take place in the afternoon.

The aim of this agreement is that people in the detention center continue their higher education studies in business administration by having all the rights and obligations of a regular student. UPS professors will have to go to the detention center and teach students.

Officials of the detention center said they are committed to cooperating so that the inmates can comply with their student obligations. Univesity officials explained that these studies will last four years and a half and those whose successfully finish will be awarded a university degree of bachelor in business administration. Students have already taken the National admissions exam and are awaiting the results so that they can enroll.

The university's vice president in Cuenca Cesar Vasquez said he was pleased with the opportunity the university was given to be part of this project that will benefit many people. He said that in case someone was released before ending their studies, they could go to the university to finish.
