There was a special ceremony in the university, where the Secretariat for the National System of Professional Qualifications and Training, SETEC for its acronym in Spanish, awarded UPS an acknowledgement. Ana Ruiz, secretary of SETEC, said the acknowledgment is awarded for effectively exercising competencies related to accreditation, normalization, assessment and certification of professional qualifications.

The university's vice president in Cuenca, Cesar Vasquez, said the acknowledgement will allow UPS to implement the qualifications system in training courses. 

Ana Ruiz praised UPS for having accepted the challenge of using a coherent system for aspects such as knowledge, human skills, cooperative and persevering work, which makes it worthy of getting the award.

UPS President Father Javier Herran Gomez, thanked SETEC officials for the acknowledgment and said "UPS is science. It is home to all people who look for science at any level, but it also educates working professionals"

With this acknowledgment the university can accredit its continuing education courses
