On March 15th, UPS professors, researchers, research assistants and library staff from the university's branch campus in Quito attended a  seminar about "Código Ingenios" (Ingenios Code), which was led by Guido Solorzano, coordinator of the intellectual property center (CEDEPI, for its acronym in Spanish).

The vice president of the university's branch campus in Quito. Jose Juncosa, welcomed all the participants and said the "Codigo Ingenios" is an important topic for the academic community.

"Our university has changed the way it manages intellectual production of professors when it comes to publishing research results; the "Código Ingenios" distinguishes author's rights from exploitation rights in such a way that the authorship will not be lost. This is a topic we should give more emphasis to and read it accurately for the research processes it conducts", he said.

Edgar Tello, research coordinator in Quito, organized this seminar so that researchers can learn about and analyze the tools of this Code. According to the speaker, the document given to participants contains mechanisms for production, transmission and appropriation of knowledge as an asset of public interest, it promotes a fair distribution of the benefits obtained from activities related to the generation, transmission, management and use of technology, innovation and traditional knowledge.

During the three hour seminar they also talked about financing and incentives for agents of the National System of Science, Technology, Innovation and Ancestral Knowledge in fields such as strengthening the human capital, responsible research and social innovation.
