Another edition of the "Young Scientists" program came to an end

UPS President Father Javier Herran led the closing ceremony of the university's "Young Scientists" program; he spoke about the outstanding work carried out by boys and girls while they learned about science and technology. He also praised the work done by the professors who are in charge: Fátima Lopez and Luis Calle.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the NAO robot; the robot welcomed the attendees and then danced to pop music, which really got the crowd excited. The dance group from Unidad Educativa Sagrados Corazones also performed. 

Students attended the course during four weeks two hours a day. The methodology is based on the use of ICT's coopertative learning, experimentation, electronic guide, a mindstorms kit and a multimedia zone.

Fatima Lopez and Luis Calle thanked the students' parents for trusting the project. They said they are pleased with the success they have had during this new course which was attended by 95 students from the following schools: Sagrados Corazones, Unidad del Milenio Manuel J. Calle, Fundación Salesiana PACES and Fundación FUPEC. Professors Lopez and Calle also thanked the university's officials for their support to the program.

Cesar Vasquez, vice president of the university's branch in Cuenca, congratulated participants and professors. He said this program represents important support for children who have begun to learn about the world of science and technology. He also said the university is currently developing a new program in order to get more young people from the city involved. At the end of the ceremony, participants were awarded certificates and there was also a demonstration of several robots.
