On November 17th, eighteen UPS researchers from Guayaquil attended a training session on topics regarding intellectual property in order to learn how to patent research, brands and so on.

The training was presented by the Intellectual Property Center (CDPI for its acronym in Spanish) and the Ecuadorian intellectual Property Institute (IEPI for its acronym in Spanish), institutions that seek to encourage research based on three elements: State-Academia-Industry. "These elements can come together through research and get good scientific products", said Yamel Oviedo, coordinator of the project.

The topics were:

-    Ingenius code
-    Intellectual property
-    Brands, patents, certifications
-    Process of patent search
-    How to write a patent?
-    Help for patents

"The aim is to disseminate intellectual property in universities and research centers and have clear concepts", said Oviedo.

During the training, they explained the necessary requirements for a patent, which are executed in three important parts: Novelty, Inventive Level and Industrialization.

According to Oviedo, the objective is to encourage researchers to produce development products, to look for new research projects, to go abroad and then return to make all their knowledge available to Ecuadorians.

On the other hand, they talked about the benefits of the Ingenius Code, which consists of financial and taxation aid, scholarships, tax exemptions, and access to training.
