The UNESCO Chairs Program "Technological Support for Inclusive Education" was officially inaugurated in the university theater; the program is part of UNESCO's "Education for all" initiative and is in line with five areas that are considered a priority by UNESCO: Information for development, Information literacy, Preservation of Information, Information ethics and access to information.

UPS President Javier Herran Gomez spoke about how the UNESCO Chairs Program is the result of an initiative that is aimed at improving the development of research and the development of training programs for higher education by creating university networks and fostering inter university cooperation driven by the most needy who see inclusion and equity their hope to development and life.

Fernando Pesantez, director of the program and UPS vice president, said: "our aim is to improve the rates of access to learning and participation in education for historically excluded populations, specially for children, youth and adults in situations of vulnerability and / or suffering from disabilities, indigenous people and the elderly. Therefore, we will implement innovative support tools supported in Information and Communication Technologies."

Amparo Naranjo Grijalva, consultant in UNESCO's office in Quito, said the UNESCO's Chairs Program to support inclusive education creates a permanent dialogue between research experiences, training for professors and the use of technologies. Through this, said Naranjo, it is possible to create actions that transcend the limits of the educational field and join the daily culture and performance of people who are involved in this project.

During this event, UPS, the Multidisciplinary Autism Center and the Cerebral Palsy Center of Azuay signed an agreement that will benefit children and young people in these centers with projects that are carried out in the university.
