UPS held computer courses for people with visual impairment

On May 30th, the computing engineering undergraduate program in the university's branch campus in Guayaquil started the courses "NVDA Windows 8" and "Introduction to computing" aimed at people with visual impairment. The courses will end on June 14th.

The courses are led by the Information and Communication Technologies for Disabilities Research Group (Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación Asociadas a Discapacidad (TICAD), the Inclusion support center (Centro de Apoyo a la Inclusión (CAI), research seedbeds groups and volunteers. The courses are part of the free training courses provided by UPS in order to assist the progress of people with disabilities.

NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) is a free software tool that allows people with disabilities to effecrtively carry out their work. "In this course participants will learn about the use of this tool which is an appropriate system for people with visual impairment", said Alice Naranjo, coordinator of the TICAD research group. 

"The aim of this project is to assist people with disabilities in the progress of being included in the labor market", said Wladimir Velasco, instructor.

The courses are supported by Fundación Once para América latina (FOAL), Ágora and Federación Nacional de Ciegos del Ecuador (FENCE). At the end of the course participants were awarded an attendance certificate.
