The university's computer engineering major and the Information and Communications Technologies for people with disabilities Research Group (TICAD for its acronym in Spanish; Investigación sobre Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación Asociadas a la Discapacitados (TICAD) from Guayaquil held two conferences: "3D printing: creating prototypes for people with disabilities" and "How to read braille". The aim of the conferences, which were held on the 12th and 18th of May, were to encourage students from all majors to work on inclusive projects.

The conferences were held with the approval of the UNESCO chairs program "Technologies for inclusive education" which UPS has been carrying out since November 2016 with the cooperation of the Free Software Academic Group – GASOL and TICAD. These two groups, made up by students and professors, conduct activities to motivate all students to take part in projects that favor inclusive education for people with disabilities. "The UNESCO chairs program develops events that allow people with disabilities to grow autonomously", said Alice Naranjo, coordinator of TICAD research group.

The 3D conference was led by Melissa Barberan and Karla Villacis, UPS students majoring in computer engineering. "These activities awaken students' interest to create inclusive projects for people with disabilities", said Alice Naranjo.

For Martha Almedia, vice president of FACIMAB and trainer of Braille, these activities allow people to learn about and feel encouraged to learn about the system used by people with visual impairment. "We are encouraging students to learn how people with visual impairment communicate", she said. This event was supported by the following institutions: Centro de Apoyo para la Inclusión (Centro de Apoyo para la Inclusión (CAI), Grupo de Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación Asociadas a Discapacidad (TICAD), Federación Nacional de Ciegos del Ecuador (FENCE) and Aulas de Gestión Ocupacional para América Latina (AGORA).

In June the TICAD research group and the RAITI Network will hold a photography exhibition with over 60 photographs that show the work carried out in inclusive education in and out of UPS.
