Psychology professors and students visited the sector of "Nuevo Ceibos"
Students and professors from the psychology undergraduate program in our branch campus in Guayaquil visited the sector of "Nuevo Ceibos" located north east of the city.
The visit is part of students' community engagement and practices; they have been in touch with several families since November via online, but this time decided to visit them personally in order to carry out some recreational activities.
Eddy Valencia, member of the students federation, said "It was challenging to start this project online, but we are now here to listen and solve some of these people's problems personally".
A talk was held about people's needs in this community, there are vulnerable inhabitants, with low economic resources and with disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, physical or intellectual disabilities.
"We are greatly satisfied about doing what we are passionate about, we value learning that goes beyond books. It has been pleasant to spend time here and show solidarity", said Nataly Navarrete, a student majoring in psychology.
Orlando Bustamante, professor and coordinator of the practices, stressed the mutual benefit of this type of activities "Community practices are a space where students enhance their skills and attitudes, oriented towards the development of communities."
