A very interesting, fun and scientific walk around the UPS- Abya Yala museum allowed people to learn more about the Amazon and the customs of several regions in Ecuador. From February 23 to March 4 the Abya Yala museum, the Artesanías Mindalae museum, Jardín Botánico and the museum of natural sciences were open at no charge for hundreds of visitors.

It is the second consecutive year they hold this event, whose aim is to allow people to learn more about the customs, traditions and practices of communities such as cofán, zápara, secoya, huao, kichwas and shuares, located in Morona Santiago, Napo, Zamora Chinchipe, Pastaza, Orellan and Sucumbios.

In the Mindalae craft museum attendees learned about the clothing and everyday objects from communities in the Amazon, in the Botanical Garden and the Museum of Natural Sciences, participants appreciated the flora and fauna of the provinces of Ecuador , while in the Abya Yala ethnographic museum they learned about hunting techniques, traditions and customs of various cultures.

Nataly Orbe , director of the Abya Yala Ethnographic Museum, said the importance of this event is that people can know , appreciate and love the diversity of our country's wealth as well as learn about the risks and environmental problems of this region and its people .

She stressed the importance of this museum for UPS because it is specializes in the Amazonian culture space and has unique archaeological pieces of cultures like Huapula the Upano, as well as the shuar shrunken heads.

The Abya Yala museum is located on Av. 12 de Octubre y Wilson and is open from Monday to Friday from 08h30 to 13h00 and 14h00 to 17h30.
