Together, Escuela Politécnica Nacional del Ecuador (EPN), Escuela Superior Politécnica del Chimborazo (ESPOCH) and Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (UPS) developed the project titled "Laboratorio Remoto de Instrumentación Virtual de Código Libre"; these results were presented during the 4th Ecuadorian Congress on Information and Communication Technologies, which took place in Universidad Catolica Santiago de Guayaquil from the 16th – 18th November.

The project was developed by an interdisciplinary group of researchers from three Ecuadorian universities; the development of technology and research for the project was conducted in Escuela Politécnica Nacional del Ecuador (EPN). The computational implementation in a distributed environment was carried out by Escuela Superior Politécnica del Chimborazo (ESPOCH) and the coordination of the beneficiaries' network of the virtual learning environment was in charge of UPS.

The following instruments were created in each university:  vapor distribution system (at EPN), hydraulic oil system (at ESPOCH), domestic refrigeration system (at UPS) which are communicated with the virtual laboratory platform through an interface and the remote laboratory. The results of the project were presented by Nelson Jara Cobos, researcher of the GID-STD Research Group at UPS.

This project was approved in the call CEPRA IX, organized by the CEDIA Network, with a budget of $68.800,00 of which $40.000,00 correspond to cofinancing of CEDIA, $11.500,00 from EPN, $8.500,00 from ESPOCH and $ 8.500,00 from UPS.
