Book launch- "Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad"
On March 25t the LNS bookstore in Quito launched the book titled "Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (CTS). Miradas desde la educación superior en Ecuador" published by the university's Abya Yala publishing house. The book was written by UPS professors Edgar Loyola, Raquel Jara, Ana María Narváez, Armando Romero, Jaime Padilla, Pablo Farfán and Ángela Flores who are studying a doctoral program at Universidad de La Habana, Cuba.
The articles are based on the results of analyzing challenges that Ecuadorian Universities must face regarding conceptions of science, technology and society.
UPS-Quito Vice President Viviana Montalvo welcomed the attendants, then congratulated the authors and said the book helps the university reflect on these topics. Dr. Hermosa, Abya Ayala coordinator, said "a finished book is a very gratifying experience, the university publishing house focuses on intellectual production that has been reviewed since this will guarantee its publication".
Universidad de la Habana Professor Fransisco Figaredo thanked the UPS professors for having taken part of his course "Social Problems of Science and Technology", in Cuba, and then using that information to write the book. He was also grateful with Armando Romero for his initiative to write the book and bring the "Social Problems of Science and Technology" course to UPS-Quito.
Professor Figaredo said that "science, technology and society are factors that enable scientific production when they contribute in the discovery of elements that favor or hinder it." He added that science must be shared, reflected upon and disseminated.
