UPS and the Ministry of Sports signed an agreement

On September 28th, Universidad Politecnica Salesiana´s General Vice President, Luis Tobar Pesantez, and the Minister of Sports, Xavier Enderica, signed an interinstitutional agreement in which they are committed to working together to develop sports in the country and in the university. Both organizations will work to strengthen people's skills through several projects.

The agreement also states that students and professors will participate in academic activities  such as field visits, Exchange programs and other community involvment programs.
To open the event, the university's vice president in Cuenca, Cesar Vasquez, welcomed the minister and the university's officials and thanked the ministry for trusting UPS.

The university's general vice president, Luis Tobar Pesantez, said the agreement will foster sports through its physical education major. "The aim is that sports become an important part in students' integral education", he said.

Xavier Enderica Salgado, began his talk by remembering his childhood when he used be part of "Tecni Club", and said he felt like home. He spoke about the importance of supporting students "because sports is transversal, sports is in health, education, inclusion and it is integral growth and development of people". He also send his regards to the university's women's soccer team "Carneras" which will play in the national tournament.

He also presented a video that showed an analysis of sports today, recalling the participation of athletes in the last Olympic Games and their effort to represent the country. He ended his speech by recalling a phrase by Nelson Mandela: "Sports has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people the way few things can do. It speaks to young people in a language they understand. Sports can create hope where there was only despair
