UPS student Cesar Paltan Zhingre, a member of the university's materials research group (El Grupo de Investigación en Materiales GiMaT), took part in the XII Ibero American Congress on Mechanical Engineering in the city of Guayaquil.

He presented his paper titled "Assessment of SAE 8620 and SAE 1018 steel hardening through solid cementation" ("Evaluación del Endurecimiento por Cementación Sólida de los Aceros SAE 8620 Y SAE 1018). The paper is about the evaluation of the hardening distribution through the cementation layer obtained from thermochemical treatment of steel. 

The research was conducted with the support of the GiMaT research group in the university's laboratories.

The aim of the cogress, which was organized by the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, ESPOL, was to get professors, businessmen, researchers and mechanical engineering studens together to share their experiences and discuss teaching methods, research projects and expriences.
