2016 Space Apps Challenge

On April 23 and 24 UPS- Quito will hold the 2016 Space Apps Challenge, an international hackathon organized by NASA which seeks to develop innovative solutions to problems applicable to Earth and Space.

In order to solve the challenges, participants will be given the necessary information, infrastructure, materials and equipment, allowing them to combine their skills, knowledge and experience to find solutions.

The challenges will inspire science and technology lovers to use all their creativity during the competition or it could also be the starting point for them to work on their own projects. The organizers are Quinto Pilar, a society that disseminattes science and technology, Buen Trip Hub, encourages technology startups, and South Made, the first community of free hardware in Ecuador.

There will be challenges in the following categories:

•    Aeronautics
•    Space station
•    Solar system
•    Technology
•    Earth
•    Trip to Mars

 Space Apps Challenge will take place in over 180 cities worldwide and it is the opportunity for studetns, professionals, experts and beginners to join a community of innovation and foster collaborative work.

Registration is free of charge and can be done up to 24 hours before the event. There are 50 spaces available. In case of team projects, each member must register in a different challenge.

Information about the challenges 

 

 Prizes:

•    The two winning projects will enter an international selection process which will award a trip to visit NASA.
•    The first three projects will be part of business incubation provided by Yachay EP, Buen Trip Hub and StartUPS.
