About 30 teenagers from Guayaquil are taking part of the project "Developing creativity in programming and mechatronics for children in the Hogar de Cristo Foundation", which is coordinated by the university's Mechatronics undergraduate program.

The aim of this project is to provide education by holding workshops of mechatronics engineerin for people who live in less favored areas of the city. "We intend to help the fulfilment of Unesco's goals of having quality education that guarantees inclusive and equal education", said Oswaldo Vanegas, coordinator of the project.

Participants learned about the use of engines and sensors for robotic applications that are usually used at home, schools, the community and production sectors.

Some of the topics will be: Introduction to Mblock programming, introduction to Arduino+mBLOCK, introduction to sensors, tele operation of a mobile robot, handling objects with robots.

For Jonathan Figueroa, beneficiary of the project, this type of activities enable you to learn new things and awakens people interest in a career for their future. "I am very thankful with professors and students from Universidad Politecnica Salesiana , they helped us improve in several aspects"

During the closing ceremony participants presented their prototypes. "We hope to have awakened people's interest in technical undergraduate programs such as mechatronics", said Jorge Fariño, director of the mechatronics program in Guayaquil.
