The importance of women in science and technology

Students form several majors in our branch campus in Guayaquil took part in the talk titled: "Women and Science" which was organized by the Information and Communication Technologies for disabilities Research Group (TICAD for its acronym in Spanish) and the group "Colectivo 11 de febrero" from Spain. The aim was to acknowledge the work carried out by women professors and researchers at a national and international level, as well as encourage their participation in more research activities.

"Today, the role of women in research is fundamental. We work with awareness and intelligence along with men to create teams. Our contribution seeks to provide wellbeing to all", said Alice Naranjo, coordinator of TICAD. 

The talk was attended by Kiara Alvarado, coordinator of the Free Software Academic Group (GASOL); Andrea Villalta, researcher of TICAD; Alejandra Valverde, representative of the students federation; and Alica Naranjo, coordinator of TICAD.

Some of the topics covered during the talk were: The evolution process of women and their stages in research. The situation of women in science and academia. Women scientists in Ecuador and UPS.

In the event, there was also a presentation of projects developed by students majoring in computing, an exhibition of posters from "Colectivo 11 de Febrero" (Spain). "These events are important to strengthen our knowledge, I invite all women to be a part of the several research groups in the university", said Andrea Villalta.
