Cheerleaders in the Nigeria neighborhood

The children who attended the performances given by the UPS Cheerleader and Modern Dance groups in the Nigeria neighborhood were so impressed by their moves  that they kept asking when they would be back.

The Nigeria neighborhood is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Guayaquil whose inhabitants have Afro American roots. The unemployment rates are drastically high and there is a lack of basic services.

People believe it is very difficult to carry out cultural events in this neighborhood because it can be "dangerous". They think poor people are also criminals which is a sign of racism that just won't disappear.

Salesians have worked in this neighborhood for many years now, they offer children and their parents support. They believe everything should be shared with the most vulnerable people in society.
