Students majoring in basic education presented 16 projects about strategies and methodologies for teaching – learning language and mathematics. The strategies are aimed at reducing the excessive use of the school textbook, the lack of resources to carry out integral evaluations, transcribe from books to notebooks and overall changes to the traditional teaching methods.

These issues were identified by students during their internships. "These activities allow students to gain educational experience and analyze the practices being used, then they are able to design innovative and creative activities in order to have significant learning", said Ma. Jose Arizaga.

"Schools lack planning, even parents think that filling in school textbooks means their kids are learning", said Camila Rojas, a 3rd year student of basic education. Students presented several projects for teaching mathematics and language, which they hope can be used to improve the teaching – learning process.

For Maria Elena Ortiz, a teacher, the projects were very creative, demonstrated lots of knowledge and were engaging. "In our education undergraduate program, we educate our students not only to identify problems, but to provide solutions and create innovative teaching methods that really engage students and boys and girls with disabilities", she said.

Domenica Viana, a student, said that in many schools they do not take into account students' interests and motivations and that there is very little variety in school activities. Leslie Palacios said: "Children need to develop their language skills and that doesn't happen in school because of obsolete practices".
