Agroecology and the tendencies of responsible consumption

The Educational Innovation in Security, Food Sovereignty and Sustainability Group, the Environmental Sciences Research Group and the undergraduate programs in local development, environmental engineering and biotechnology, organized the talk "Agroecology and responsible consumption in UPS". The aim of this talk was to create proposals for agro ecology in the country and responsible consumption.

The welcoming speech was given by Sebastian Granda, acting vice president of our branch campus in Quito. "Agro ecology is very important at a local, regional and world level. It demands urgent actions on production models and consumption in order to have a better society", he said.

In the event, they talked about the distribution of agroecological products, the creation of public policies to facilitate the relationship of producers and consumers, policies of geographical information to support agro ecological planning and have constant production. 

"We analyzed new tendencies and problems of responsible consumption by considering the cosmovision of indigenous communities about what and how to produce", said Charles Cachipuendo, coordinator of the food safety and sustainability research group. 

The speakers were Ronnie Lizano, who talked about agriculture of the future; Lenyn Pulamarin who presented geographical information systems used in planning agro ecological production; Jose Carvajal presented public policies and certifications; Laura Saura talked about gender and agro ecology, Roberto Guerrero who spoke about the distribution system of agroecological products and Eliana Estrella who talked about a campaign titled "Qué rico es"!
