In order to create plastic fiber from residues from plantations of local products, such as: bananas, cocoa and rice. Loris Murolo, Francesco Maisto and Pier Scuotto, master's degree students from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (Italy), are in our branch campus in Cuenca working on a project that aims to ensure that this fiber has a faster, less polluting biodegradable process and generates a positive environmental impact, unlike what common plastic can cause.

The project will last four months and they will work together with Fernanda Tenezaca and Heidi Palmar, two environmental engineering students, who will work on their final graduation project.

The environmental similarities between Ecuador and Italy made them choose this country to carry out their research. Loris Murolo said that thanks to the support of Professor Massimiliano Fabbricino who had already come to Cuenca, Ecuador before and knew that the university possesses leading technology, they decided chose UPS.

The three students said they were very happy to be in Cuenca and were very thankful with everyone in the university.
