The insignia "Municipalidad de Cuenca" is the highest recognition awarded by the city's municipality; it was awarded to UPS President Javier Herran by the President of Ecuador.

Father Javier Herran said: "This award emphasizes our institutional life which keeps the values of our identity alive. It makes us feel more committed to continue our work with the skills God has provided us with…The insignia motivates us and makes us proud, we feel responsible for what Cuenca expects from us. We will continue to work with greater enthusiasm and make sure our activities transcend and contribute to the future of this city."
