Professors and students from the environmental engineering undergraduate program, along with representatives of the students federation (FEUPS), officially received the award "Distinción Ambiental Metropolitana Quito Sostenible".

The award acknowledges companies, institutions, neighborhoods and people who carry out good environmental practices and favorable actions to reduce environmental footprints. The environmental engineering undergraduate program had received an invitation from the Secretariat of Environment to participate in the competition. The issues they worked on were: sustainable mobility, good environmental practices, natural heritage care, proper waste management and eco efficient building

Karina Pazmiño, director of the environmental engineering undergraduate program, said that thanks to the support from university officials, professors, students and administrative staff were able to get together to organize campaigns for reducing the consumption of electrical energy, plastic, the use of recycled material, carpooling, reforestation and others
Deysi Chicaiza, civil engineering student and former member of FEUPS, spoke about the activities, "We managed to work as a team and strengthen the aim of the environmental engineering program, along with FEUPS we were able to make an ecological notebook, reduce the use of paper in the university and create awareness within the community about the importance of changing our habits to care for the environment."

Ramón Perez, director of the electronics engineering undergraduate program, highlighted the importance of having other programs participate. "Part of the proposal was to analyze the consumption of electrical energy, one the main sources of greenhouse gases emission. We managed to reduce these levels without affecting the comfort of the university community", he said.

The group that organized the activities was made up by Jose Juncosa, vice president of our branch campus in Quito; Karina Pazmiño, director of the environmental engineering program; Ramón Perez, director of the electronics and automation program; professors Diana Garcia, Carlos Ulloa, Miguel Araque and Renato Sánchez. Patricia Quiroz and Melvin Flores, from the administrative staff; Deysi Chicaiza from FEUPS and Claudia Narváez from the communication department.
