Students majoring in civil engineering in our branch campus in Guayaquil visited the new buildings that are being built in the "Maria Auxiliadora" campus in order to strengthen their education by having hands on and up close practice of their profession.

Students who are taking the construction materials sciences subject learned about the processes and tools applied in modern buildings. "What's most important is that students have the opportunity to become familiar with the profession they have chosen in order to contribute to society", said Pedro Peña, director of the civil engineering undergraduate program.

Professors are currently planning other visits so students can have a close look at what their profession is like. "Besides the visits, the university has the laboratories where students can experiment the reactions of several elements used in building materials", said Peña.

These activities allow students to be involved in real life contexts and encourage their academic development. "It is very important for us to learn about the behavior of materials, how to work with them and the methods of building", said Diego Mackliff, civil engineering student.
