Our branch campus in Quito held the second Communication Conference "JORCOM", which was organized by the communication undergraduate program. The central topic was "Communication and the city". Students and professors took part in forums, contests and workshops, the aim was to have several academic activities to create discussions and debates.

Father Javier Herran, UPS president, said it is important to strengthen the identity of communicators. "I hope this is a generation of communicators who support and love the truth, who go beyond telling the news and are people with critical thought".

Narcisa Medranda spoke about the role of communication in the city, "we cannot think about communication without considering the city, its colloquial language, social interactions, culture, sense, and so on".

The forum: "Communication and the city" was led by the speakers Fernando Carrión, research professor at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences FLACSO and advisor of the Municipality of Quito; Karina Gallegos; and professors Grace Benalcázar and Diego Cóndor. Fernando Carrión referred to the city as a special means of communication in which he stressed that it is necessary to rethink the city from a communication perspective. "Communication must strengthen the condition of citizenship and integrate the urban, citizenship and municipal areas," he stated.

Gallegos presented the topic "Pedestrians as a public problem in Quito", she referred to the media creation of the conflict, vehicular management and the so-called "careless pedestrian". Benalcázar talked about "The symbolic city" and Diego Condor made an analysis of contexts, forms and ways of connections in these spaces.

Another talk was "Quito en el lenguaje del meme", led by Ivan Piedra (Rokoto feo), a debate about the movie "Cuando me toque a mi", directed by Victor Arregue and finally awards were given to the best audiovisual products and the winners of the meme competition.
